It has been a while since I have posted, but I figured what better way to come back then a race recap. As many of my friends and family know, I ran the Nike Women’s Half Marathon on October 17th 2015 in San Francisco, and IT WAS AWESOME. Here is a quick overview of the weekend and why I thought it was so great!
Nike put on such a fantastic spread over the weekend. They had so many activities for visitors throughout the city. I met lots of women who came solo, so it was great to have many opportunities to meet the women you were racing with. One of the activities, was a scavenger hunt for earrings.
They had yoga at Pier 39, morning shake out runs, and many other Nike Training workouts that runners could enjoy. My mother booked a trip to Sonoma to visit a few vineyards, so we only participated in a small part of the scavenger hunt.
The Nike Store in Union Square had every runners name on the window. So cool!
We stayed right in Union Square, which is where the start of the race was. It was nice to not have to worry about transportation to the starting point. It was a three block walk. My mom walked with me as far as she could, and then took a $20 shuttle to the end point of the race. I also bought a shuttle ticket for post race. San Francisco is not exactly the easiest place to walk around, especially after running 13.2 miles. I thought this was such a great feature.
The race was absolutely gorgeous. I really do wish I brought my phone with me to snap pictures. Luckily, there were tons of photographers along the race. I honestly did not feel like I was even running from miles 0 to 10. The weather was perfect and the course was hilly but no steep hills showed up till mile 10. Oh Mile 10, straight uphill, right next to the bay. It was a beautiful struggle.
But I made it. 13.2. It was wonderful. Especially when I got this.
The medal for the race was a super cute Tiffany & Co. necklace. It was beautiful.
My time was 2:09, which wasn’t was I was aiming for but I knew the hills of San Francisco would play a factor into my normal running here in Chicago. After the race, my mom and I snacked on some awesome post race food sponsored by Whole Foods.
I am so happy that I went through with this race. I pretty much stopped CrossFitting while training. I chose to start running when I was getting very overwhelmed and unmotivated while working night shift. I really wanted to enjoy the beautiful Chicago weather and workout at my own time.
I would 100% recommend running a Nike Women’s Race. Everything about it was organized and enjoyable. I am very excited to see where next years race will be. Last year it was in Washington D.C.
